After reading some of the special event reviews on Deb’s site, we decided we had to do one of them. We were tempted to try one of the Food & Wine pairings but were concerned that they might throw in some shellfish, which Rich is allergic to. So, being the dessert lovers we are, we chose to do “Sweet Sundays” instead. At the time of booking, the only available day left was the final day of the Festival. Colette Peters, Pastry Chef, Author, of Colette’s Cakes, NY was scheduled to be the guest chef for the day but apparently she had chosen to do an event in Sweden instead. In her replacement was the delightful Antony Osborne, a Master Pastry chef from such faraway places as Raffles in Singapore and currently the dean at Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College.

Let me say this: the whole experience was simply mahvelous! If we get the opportunity to return next year, we’d love to try one of the Signature Dinners.

Anyway, back to “Sweet Sunday.” We were first seated at tables for 8 and invited to help ourselves to the continental buffet, which includes such hot items as scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and potatoes. Martini & Rossi, the host for the event, poured a steady supply of sparkling wine. And then Chef Antony entertained us all by preparing several delicious desserts, such as Banana Brulee, Macadamia Nut Crunch with a Pistachio Anglaise and Chocolate Kulfi Ice Cream. Three quarters of the way into the prep, these desserts were served to all of us.

Afterwards, we took our final lap around World Showcase and sampled 3 of our favorite booths, this time counter clockwise, hoping to get hungry by the time we got to Mexico.

We must say that while the temps have dipped into the 80s, with the Orlando humidity (always warmer inland), it was still too warm and very crowded. This is a busy time for Northeasterners and college kids. But it was fun to see that the parks are already starting to be decorated for Christmas.

We’re looking forward to returning frequently over the Christmas season or as often as we can stomach that awful drive between Disney and Tampa.
