Food & Wine with Family and Friends, Day 5

October 2010, 15th Annual Food & Wine Festival, Pool Home with the Eckardt Gang Trip Report

Wednesday, October 20, 2010, Day 5

After breakfast and coffee, we said good-bye to Emily – we were so sad to see her go! And then the 3 of us headed for the Magic Kingdom. I don’t think Rich and Bob had ever done the Magic Kingdom together before but they had experienced some of the attractions like Carousel of Progress when it was still at the New York World’s Fair in 1964.

The following year, they would take a family trip out west and see Disneyland for the first time. So riding Carousel of Progress with Bob was especially nostalgic – so cool to do this with the brothers as they rode it together once again so many years later.

We rode our usual favorite rides like Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion and also rode more rides than we usually do and stopped to watch parades and other performances. Here’s a pic Bob caught of us after a Cinderella performance in front of Cinderella Castle.

We also strolled throughout the park, drinking in the surroundings and atmosphere, besides drinking a bottle of water – it was hot and humid!!

We chose to skip lunch at the MK but have a late lunch at Whispering Canyon in Wilderness Lodge. We rode the boat over, which is always fabulous but especially fun with Bob because he’s also a beach and water lover. Woo hoo!

By this time we were hot and thirsty and ready to sit down where we would be served FABs in an air-conditioned environment.

The CM introduced herself as the Sheriff and we kept calling her the Marshal – or was it the other way around? lol! Yes, I think it was.

I don’t remember what we ate – sandwiches of some kind – but I do remember ordering a Margarita, which was deliciously perfect for the occasion! I also remember Bob ordering a Blue Moon and the CM made him sing the song – lol! Bob happily complied. What did you drink, Rich?

Having such fun, we took pics of our hats to mark the occasion  lol!

When the bill came and Rich handed over the AP and Tables in Wonderland cards, Bob was impressed once again. He’s never quite sure what to make of us – are we talking in some sort of special Disney code, California speak or what? lol!

We caught the boat back to the Magic Kingdom, but when it stopped at the Contemporary/Bay Lakes Tower and Villas, I said, “Bob and Larry are staying here–let’s call them!” Before Rich and Bob knew it, I was punching Larry’s cell phone number and Larry answered. He said they’d just arrived back in the room and he so graciously invited us to come up. He met us at the bottom of the elevators, we hugged, and escorted us to the room. We hadn’t seen Bob G. or Larry since we’d lived there over 3 years before.

Upon entering the villa, we hugged Bob G. and introductions were made all around – Larry’s sister Beverly and her husband Steve, and Rich’s brother, Bob. They gave us a tour of the villa – this was our first peek into this fabulous resort property, and we sat down for a bit and chatted.

Brother Bob, puzzled once again by this Disney behavior, asked, “So how do you all know each other?” Bob G. explained it was the Passporter boards (Brother Bob would soon learn first-hand how this Disney connection works when he makes friends of his own – that story coming soon).

We bid them adieu (we would see then again the next night at the Dessert Party) and drove back to the pool home where we cooled off in the pool and took a brief nap before spending the evening doing laundry, watching baseball, and talking. I think we made sandwiches for dinner and drank some wine.

Another fabulous day!

That was such a great happenstance and I was so glad you called and y’all were able to come up and visit. That was our first time staying at Bay Lake Tower (my first DVC home resort) and I have only grown to like it more since then. The access to the Magic Kingdom and the other resorts is wonderful. I chuckled over the “how do you all know each other?” We get that a lot! But Passporter has allowed us to meet some many wonderful, kindred spirits.

We were privileged to have toured it twice – both thanks to you! Would love to stay there sometime!
