Food & Wine with Family and Friends, Day 6

October 2010, 15th Annual Food & Wine Festival, Pool Home with the Eckardt Gang Trip Report

Thursday, October 21, 2010, Day 6

Every trip to Disney must have a beach day and with the 3 beach lovers together, and it was unanimous – today we were off to Cocoa Beach. We parked at the pier and turned to the left, found our place on the beach, left our stuff, and ran into the water. We swam and body surfed until we were exhausted. The water is so warm in Florida, I kept thinking how much nicer this was than Huntington Beach, where the water is colder and you have to get “used to it.”

We got out and had an ice cream from one of the vendors on the pier. Then we drove back to Port Canaveral and had lunch on the water. Rich must have been wearing his Kauai baseball cap because our waitress, in that gruff, northeastern voice of hers said, “I used to live on Kauai.” After she left, Bob laughed, and remembering the contrast with our CM from Whispering Canyon, said something like “Looks like we’re not at Disney anymore.” lol! This boy is catching on. 🙂

We probably all had either a burger or something fishy and a beer.

We dropped Bob off at the airport to rent a car because he would be on his own tonight and tomorrow after Rich and I flew home. We took a short nap in the pool home, and then Rich and I got ready to meet Passporter friends at Epcot for the Food & Wine Festival Dessert party. We did our usual parking in the after 5 p.m. Boardwalk parking lot and walked to the International Gateway entrance to Epcot and met our friends waiting in front of Rose & Crown.

Bob, Larry, Beverly, and Steve were there and then we met, for the first time, Tom and Lesley, Joan, Mary Jean and hubby Dennis, and the Tiaras – woo hoo! What a night!!!

When we entered the building for the dessert party, we grabbed a few tables and sat down – Joan and Bob were kind enough to keep Rich and me company at a table for four. Behind us were Larry, Tom, Lesley, Beverly, and Steve. And next to us were Mary Jean, Dennis and the tiaras.

Desserts and drinks were set up around 5 tables or so and we all got up, mingled, grabbed some goodies, and drinks and chatted at our tables. Then some of us took a few pics of each other – not the food – lol!  Here are some of mine:

After the dessert portion of the evening, we were led outside to our special reserved place for Illuminations. We watched it together and then chatted a bit before hugging and saying good-bye. The crowd roared when Rich gave Big Macho Tom a big hug. 🙂

It was quite a memorable evening, for sure.

When we returned to the pool home, Brother Bob was there regaling us with his stories of hanging out at the ESPN lounge at the Boardwalk to watch his beloved Phillies in the World Series and how guys from New Jersey, etc. would invite him to sit down and hang out. Then, Bob said, he knew what we meant by this great big Disney family and how strangers were just friends you hadn’t met yet.:)

We packed our bags and said good-night to Brother Bob. Tomorrow was travel back home day.
